Passport and identity card : address the local police.

Register on the electoral lists

The City hall gets the registration from January, 1st to December, 31st. It is taken into account on March, 1st of the following year.

Documents required
For the 18 years old youths :
- National identity card or French nationality certificate or a valid passport
- Proof of residence

The young boys & girls listed for the call-up for defence preparation day when 16 years old are ex officio contacted. If not, they have to get in touch with their City Hall of residence by themselves, 1 month before their age of consent at the latest.

For the newcomers :
- Identity card or passport
- Proof of residence
- Last voters’ card

For the already registered voters and changing their address in the town :
- Identity card
- Proof of residence

For the voters not domiciled in the town but in the lists of the direct financial contribution :
- Identity card
- Tax notice (real estate tax, local residence tax, business tax) of the last 5 years
- Last voters’ card

CIVIL STATUS : backgound information – How to obtain a civil status record ?

By mail, fax or email being sent to the City Hall of the town where the event occured, by going directly to the Civil Status window with your family record book and an identity card.

Individual or familial civil status records

- The issuance of the civil status records has been removed since December 29th, 2000.
- The record is replaced by the mere making of a family record book copy steadily updated by the holder without this copy having to be certified by its user.

Copy or abstract of the birth certificate

Documents required
- Make a request by mail by providing your identity, birth date and the parents’ surname & first name. No copy or abstract of birth certificate can be requested by phone.
- A stamped envelope must be provided for the answer when the request is asked by mail.

Copy or abstract of the marriage certificate

Documents required
- Make a request by mail by providing your identity, birth date and the parents’ surname & first name. No copy or abstract of marriage certificate can be requested by phone.
- A stamped envelope must be provided for the answer when the request is asked by mail.

- City Hall of the wedding place.
- French people married abroad or in a French Overseas Department or Territory : see above.

Copy of the death certificate

Documents required
- If the request is made by mail, specify the identity of the deceased person and its death date.
- A stamped envelope must be provided for the answer when the request is asked by mail.

Where to apply
- City Hall of the death place or of the last home of the deceased person.

The family record book

Who can get it ? ?
- Spouses during the wedding.
- Parents of children born in France or who are French during the birth of their first child and after recognition.
- Father or mother alone born in France or French after recognition.
- Foster parents born in France or French.

Duplicate of the family registry

Documents required
- Supporting documents about the spouse & children civil status.

Where to apply
- City Hall of the wedding or of the children birth place or of the home.

Birth registration in the city of Lavaur

Registration has to be made under the 3 days following the childbirth (the birth date is not included in these 3 days). If the 3rd day is a Saturday, a Sunday, a day off or public holiday, registration has to be done the first following working day at the latest.

Documents required
- Birth certificate produced by the doctor or the midwife.
- Family record book.
- Identity card of both the father and the mother.
- Possibly a copy of the child’s anticipated act of recognition.

Statement of child recognition

It can be done by each parent, together or not, before the child birth, during the birth registration or after the birth.

Documents required
- Identity card for the registrant(s).,
- Possibly the biological parent(s)’ family registry.
- For a postnatal recognition, if the child is not born in Lavaur : copy or abstract of his / her birth certificate.

Where to apply
- Every City Hall.
- Lavaur City Hall (Civil Status service).
- Possibly before a notary.

Death certificates

Death registration must be done within the following 24 hours after death (the death registration occured in a public hospital is carried out by the administration of the institution).

Documents required
- A medical certificate to confirm the death ;
- The family record book or identity card of the dead ;
- Identity card of the registrant.

Procedures with the aim of wedding

Documents required
You will be informed of the list of documents needed when coming to Lavaur City Hall. One of the two future spouses must be domiciled or residing in Lavaur.

Military census

When to attend a census ?
The census for the call-up for defence preparation day is mandatory :
- For every French people.
- Or for everyone who just became French before 25 years old.

Census date
- The young men born on or after January 1st, 1980, have to register as soon as they are 16 years old ;
- The young women born on or after January 1st, 1983, have also to register when they are 16 years old.

Where and how to be registered ?
- It is necessary to come to the City Hall of the place of residence ;
- If the person lives abroad : come to the French consulate or diplomatic service.
- If the registrant is unable to do the steps by himself, his legal representative (parents, legal guardian…) can do it for him.

Documents required
- An identity card (national identity card, passport or any other document which justifies of the French nationality).
- Family record book.

Certificate of census

It is necessary in particular to take the examination and public competitions, until the age of 25 years old.

Please pay attention, this certificate must be carefully kept because the City Halls do not give any duplicate. In case of loss or theft, it is however possible to ask for a proof to the National Service Office of the concerned.
